Spyro became Chairman of J.B. Sorotto in 2009.
In 2001 he set up an Engineering Consultancy business providing technical support for large Oil and Gas EPC companies including AMEC, ENI Snamprogetti, Petrofac and Chicago Bridge and Iron. The consultancy has worked on new offshore platforms for example Sakhalin Island eastern Russia; UK North Sea; import and export LNG facilities in Nigeria, UK, China, Chile, Qatar and Peru.
Previously, Spyro spent 34 years with Shell where he gained valuable experience on a variety of vessels such as product, crude oil and VLCC tankers, as well as LNG carriers. He obtained his DTI Extra First Class Combined Certificate in 1982.
In addition he worked in Technical Materials Procurement; North Sea offshore installations and refineries; Design and Project Management for Shell UK and Shell Aviation.
Matthew was appointed Director and Deputy Chairman of J.B Sorotto in 2013 after spending 15 years in PwC, seven of which in PwC Italy.
After becoming a Certified Charted Accountant he worked on various engagements including audit, due diligence and other assurance and advisory work and gained considerable experience on international tax structures. Working on various international groups and in proximity with their management, he has learned to understand large corporate structures, their management and business processes and the interaction between them.
He sits on the Council for the Association of Ship Agents and the Malta Employers Association and in February 2013 was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea.
Seraphim was appointed General Manager of JB Sorotto in October 2017.
He has 25 years’ experience and a dynamic and versatile business profile combining Operational, Technical and Financial aspects giving him the ability to deal with both Strategic Planning and Operations.
He has held senior managerial positions in the maritime and industrial manufacturing sectors having dealt with Strategy, Financial Management and Decision Support as well as Restructuring and Turnaround, Post-Merger Integration, internationalization of activities & operational optimization.
He holds an MBA from the American College of Greece (ALBA Graduate Business School), a B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering and an M.Eng. (Hons) in Decision Making from Technical University of Crete. He has also attended the internationally acclaimed CITI F/X & MM Workshop and is a mentor in the MIT Enterprise Forum.
Norman acts as consultant to J.B. Sorotto. Previously he was Managing Director of J.B. Sorotto for 17 years. He was one of the pioneers of the Maltese ship registration business. His over 45 years’ experience with the company allows Norman to understand the complexities of the shipping and transportation industries.
At J.B. Sorotto he has advised a number of international banks in connection with vessels under the Malta flag and provides ongoing counsel to various major ship owners and operators.
Norman is a member of the Malta Maritime Law Association; The International Propeller Club, Port of Valletta, Malta and The Institute of Directors, London.
Marvin has been with the company since 2006. Over the years Marvin has built strong competences in vessel and port agency working on a multitude of vessels ranging from the simplest of barges to the more complex vessels including cruise liners, LNG carriers, tankers, bulkers as well as luxury superyachts.
Having worked at different levels within the company he has built strong relationships with both local operators and authorities and is fully conversant with the local maritime rules and regulations.
Marvin’s maritime capabilities means he understands the operational aspect of our clients’ businesses. Today Marvin heads the port agency and husbandry department of J.B. Sorotto Limited.
Patricia joined J.B. Sorotto in 1981 and has worked in various departments within the company, giving her an in-depth understanding of the maritime industry and vessel registration in particular.
Patricia's detailed knowledge has built strong relationships with our clients. She is responsive to their needs, offering ongoing support that goes beyond the purely regulatory requirements.
Roberto Gusman joined J.B. Sorotto in 2005. He heads the Accounts Department and has gained over 30 years’ experience in the accountancy field both locally and overseas, with more than 13 in the maritime sector.
Eliza joined J.B. Sorotto Ltd. in 2015. She studied International Trading Relations at the University of Catania, in Italy.
Eliza has experience in the STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) and assists in the registration, accounting and administration departments.
